Why you WILL become obsessed with poo

So today’s post is all about poo. Everyone swears that they will not become obsessed with poo when they have their baby. There is no way that they will be discussing the consistency and frequency of their baby’s bowel movements with their new mummy friends or anyone that will listen. Well if you have already had a baby you have already discussed poo many, many times. If you haven’t had a baby yet I promise you when you do you will talk about poo. Yes really. Even you!

Sadly it is inevitable. The first thing the midwives do is ask you about your baby’s poo. The health visitors, doctors and any medical staff that you come into contact with once your baby arrives will ask about your baby’s poo. All that is right or wrong with your baby will be identified by their poo.

So very quickly you realise that when someone asks you about your baby’s poo you need to know the answers. The only way to know the answers is to start taking a very keen interest in poo and possibly even writing it down as it happens so often in the beginning. That way when asked exactly how many dirty nappies you have had in the last 24 hours you can answer confidently and avoid your reply ending in an “I think” and receiving the very disapproving look. This is the look reserved especially for parents who do not answer the poo questions correctly. This is a look that says oh dear clearly this parent isn’t taking enough of an interest in their baby’s poo.

Just like that you instantly understand that you have failed the first item on the good parenting checklist. And there you have it - in that moment, you have passed the point of no return. From now on you ARE one of those parents who is extremely interested in their child’s poo.

Welcome to the club.
